AIMS
The UCPM call asked to reach the following objectives:
To bring together civil protection and disaster management experts and organisations
To make relevant knowledge on civil protection and disaster management accessible to all
To foster innovation for more efficient and effective civil protection
Following these guidelines, TRACENET planned to:
1) Design, develop and implement multi-disciplinary, risk-based thematic community/centre of expertise for civil protection and disaster management stakeholders
2) Design, develop and implement capacity-development and applied science activities that contribute to building and sharing of knowledge, expertise and skills in civil protection and disaster management
3) Create an innovative, online, collaborative, realistic 3D environment ("framework") to allow simulation scenarios and countless opportunities in Virtual Reality (VR) to build expertise, share knowledge and establish remote but real contacts among participants, reducing costs and the environmental impact of traditional on-site training activities
TRACENET outcomes will feed the UCP Knowledge Network with guidelines, lessons learnt, multi-user training courses as well as an open-source, extendable and replicable framework useful for simulating hazards and perform online trainings for rescuers. TRACENET will finally create synergies among newly established thematic communities/centres of expertise and a wide range of target groups focused on specific natural or human-induced hazards as well as preparedness and response activities.
